We’re 4 today!*
Pulling everything together
We’ve spent the last seven months pulling everything together, and we’re about ready as we can be!
For the past 4 years, we’ve been trying our best to articulate the overall challenges and problems among Christian in America of Asian descent, to test our assumptions and to design a way forward.
We think God is doing something among Asian American Christians, and has been for some time now, and yet, there’s little record of this and little study. We think a neutral theologically evangelical centrist organization is needed to gather our stories, keep records and work on our common challenges so we can all continue to move forward, growing in Christ, loving our neighbors and the world as we are called! We propose AsianAmericanChristian.org as such an organization.
Our task has been to design a way to fulfill our mission to ask “What God is doing in us?” to hear and gather all Asian American Christian voices and to build inroads towards understanding, reconciliation and fellowship. To figure out where we’re at, we’ve been listening to a wide variety of voices on the ground and key leaders on the way, proactively asking questions and building relationships. We’ve taken many steps back to think through what connects us: how communication works, how knowledge is passed along, what we all share, what is left unspoken, and what we all believe in Christ. We’ve been working hard to learn “the boxes” so we can think outside of them so we can position all Asian American Christians towards our vision of John 17:23a, Jesus’ prayer to the Father, “May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you loved me.”
Needless to say, we’ve been in much prayer. God has been challenging us to dream big, so we’re thinking very long term, beyond current generations, towards future generations to come. We’ve thought as holistically, as core to the Gospel as we possibly can.
Everything we’ve posted so far is a work in progress towards our design or an “example” we’ll be using to illustrate our design. And any good work we’ve done along the way, is because of God.
The time share and get feedback
We’re just about ready to share the whole of our idea for AsianAmericanChristian.org. So far, we have only done it piecemeal, as it’s been developing. We’re going to start privately with our advisors, then with all our interviewees, other Asian American Christian leaders, and our mailing list. We’ll listen, get feedback and make necessary changes.
We’re wondering if this is God’s timing for such an organization. We’ll know if it is if (1) a critical and diverse mass of Asian American ministers tell us this is needed, (2) if God provides people to come help us and gives us the necessary resources to begin.
If you are not already in contact with us and would like to hear our whole idea, please join our mailing list.
Soli deo gloria.
*”We” are mainly one person, but I use the “we” because I do not feel like I did this alone. God has been with me every step, and God has provided advisors, friends, connections, help, and encouragement as need. I also use “we” because this has never been just for me; the hope has always been that this idea will be a gift to all Asian American Christians, for Asian American Christians.
